Annual Psychological Evaluations

The clinicians evaluate employees’ continued suitability for their roles, including special teams. The final report details any behavioral, cognitive, psychological, or other identified barriers to the continued assignment barriers to the employee’s job performance.

Fitness-for-Duty Evaluations

The psychologist conduct evaluations in accordance with the IACP guidelines evaluations according to the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) guidelines, assessing if the employee can safely perform their defined job duties due to potential psychological conditions. These comprehensive evaluations include relevant testing, interviews, mental status exams, clinical consultations, and record reviews.

Peer Support Evaluations

The psychologist assesses the potential peer team members’ personality, communication skills, and other related characteristics to be successful on a peer support team.
Following the IACP guidelines, FMRT assists departments in implementing, evaluating, and training peer support teams using the “Psychological First Aid” model. Our clinicians are available for needs beyond the peer support team’s scope.

Psychological Promotional Evaluations

Licensed clinicians assess candidates’ backgrounds, cognitive abilities, interpersonal skills, and leadership styles, reviewing referral and performance data to identify any psychological or leadership barriers.

Service Offerings for the Employee

Critical Incident Appointments

Confidential sessions with culturally competent mental health professionals are offered within 48-72 hours after a critical incident. These sessions explore the employee’s reactions, support systems, and available professional resources. Employees receive educational materials and a three-month follow-up, while employers are informed of attendance only. The employee will also receive psycho-education material for reference in addition to a three-month follow-up with the psychologist. The employer will receive “Attended/Did Not Attend” as the only feedback.

Mental Wellness Appointments

Mental wellness appointments are one-hour confidential sessions that allow an employee to speak with a mental health professional.

Physical Wellness Appointments

Physical wellness appointments are performed by Advanced Practice Professionals (APPs) who understand the physical requirements of first responders. The physical wellness results are summarized and shared with appropriate agency staff pre-determined by the agency.
FMRT will deliver the final report via a secure website to the appropriate personnel. Report findings will be provided in the summary sections indicating:

Post-Deployment Appointments

FMRT offers post-deployment sessions for returning veterans, encouraged for all agencies as a service to their employees. These sessions, similar to critical incident appointments, focus on educating veterans about potential adjustment issues and support options. They are not fitness-for-duty evaluations since no work-related issues are assessed prior to the veteran’s return.
